Sometimes, no matter how uncomfortable, we need to get to grips with what the bible tells us to do as husbands.
Here is one that I’d rather figure out BEFORE I get married, rather than after. What God expects of me as a husband:
THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father] – Eph 5:1
For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the church – Eph 5:23
- What does this mean to men?
- How do we live it out?
- What do you think God had in mind when He wrote it through Paul?
He obviously wasn’t giving a license to control – since God gives us all INCREDIBLE freedom to reject Him and argue back and fight.
So He wasn’t saying it’s a matter of control. So we have to dig in a bit deeper and consider – in what way can we see Christ leading the church? Some people think the church is a shambles and a wreck. For them this question is useless.
But I don’t think that. I think that IF the church has fallen away (and I don’t!) then that would show the incredible freedom that we Christians have been given to reject God.
So what can we see in the way that Christ heads up the church, which we can implement in our own relationships – with our wives or future wives?
